Why we don't install epoxy

Polyurea outperforms epoxy on every Wisconsin garage floor.

Epoxy was the standard 20 years ago. The industry has moved on. Here's a side-by-side that holds up at the kitchen table.

Epoxy The old way
  • Yellows and chalks within a year of UV exposure
  • Rigid. Cracks across freeze-thaw and slab movement
  • Hot tires lift it right off the slab in summer
  • 3–7 days cure. Garage out of service for a week.
  • Acid-etch prep leaves a weak chemical bond
Polyurea + Polyaspartic What we install
  • UV stable for life. Won't yellow, won't chalk, ever
  • 100% more flexible. Moves with the slab, no cracking
  • Heat-resistant. No hot tire pickup. Period.
  • Walk in 24 hours, drive in 48. Done in a weekend.
  • Diamond-ground prep. Permanent mechanical bond

Same square footage, same flake colors, half the cure time, and a coating that's still bonded when the epoxy job down the street is peeling. That's why every truck we send out runs polyurea.

The 6-Step Install

Our 6-step process, from diamond grinding to lifetime UV warranty.

Same checklist on every floor. The reason our coatings still look new at year ten when the cheap stuff peeled in year two.

  1. 01

    Diamond grinding

Industrial diamond-tooled grinders open the concrete pores and remove contaminants. We never acid-etch. This is the bond.

  2. 02

    Crack & joint repair

Every visible crack, control joint, and spall gets filled with flexible polyurea joint filler that moves with the slab.

  3. 03

    Polyurea basecoat

A fast-cure polyurea basecoat goes down at full mil thickness. This is the structural layer of the system.

  4. 04

    Full flake broadcast

Decorative flake blend (your choice of color) is broadcast to refusal across the entire slab, then scraped clean.

  5. 05

    Polyaspartic UV topcoat

A UV-stable polyaspartic clear topcoat seals it all in. Hot-tire safe, chemical-resistant, walk-on in 24 hours.

  6. 06

    15-year written warranty

You get a written 15-year warranty against chip, crack, and peel, plus a separate lifetime warranty against UV fading.

FAQ

Common questions about polyurea garage floor coatings.

How long does a garage floor coating installation take?

Most residential 2-car garages are completed in 1–2 days, typically 6–8 hours from grinding to final topcoat. Larger or multi-area projects may take two days. You can walk on the floor in 24 hours and drive on it in 48.

What's the difference between polyurea and epoxy?

Polyurea is the newer, better technology. It's 100% more flexible than epoxy (critical for Wisconsin freeze-thaw cycles), UV stable (won't yellow in sunlight), resistant to hot tire pickup, and cures much faster. Epoxy is rigid, yellows, peels from hot tires, and takes up to a week to cure. We use polyurea exclusively because it outperforms epoxy in every measurable category.

What does the preparation process involve?

Every installation starts with professional diamond grinding. We grind the entire floor to remove contaminants, existing coatings, and the weak surface layer of concrete. This opens the pores for a permanent mechanical bond. After grinding, we repair all cracks with flexible polyurea filler. We never use acid etching.

What's included in the 15-year warranty?

Our 15-year limited warranty covers chipping, cracking, and peeling of the coating under normal residential use. We also include a separate lifetime warranty against UV fading, meaning the color won't yellow or chalk in sunlight, ever. The warranty does not cover damage from abuse, neglect, or improper chemical exposure.

Do I need to clear out my entire garage?

Yes. The floor needs to be completely clear of vehicles, storage, shelving contents, and tools. If you have permanently mounted items like a water heater, furnace, or support posts, let Dave know during the quote and we'll plan around them. Tip: clear the garage the day before. It always takes longer than people expect.

How much does a garage floor coating cost?

Pricing depends on square footage and the condition of your concrete. We publish ballpark per-square-foot pricing because we believe you deserve to know if we're in your budget before committing to a quote visit. A 2-car runs $3,000–$4,500 and a 3-car runs $4,500–$6,000. Call or text Dave at (715) 307-8302 for an exact number.

Can you coat a basement floor with moisture issues?

In most cases, yes. Our polyurea systems are more moisture-tolerant than epoxy and create a seamless barrier that prevents moisture migration through the slab. Basements with visible standing water or active intrusion may need drainage work first, but typical ground moisture vapor is well within what our systems handle. Dave will assess the moisture level during the free quote visit.

What areas do you serve?

We serve western Wisconsin along the I-94 corridor from River Falls all the way through Eau Claire (River Falls, Hudson, Roberts, Hammond, Baldwin, Woodville, Menomonie, Elk Mound, Eau Claire, Altoona, Chippewa Falls, Prescott, Ellsworth, New Richmond), plus the east Twin Cities metro (Woodbury, Stillwater, Cottage Grove, Lake Elmo, Oakdale, Hastings, Eagan, Apple Valley, Lakeville, Farmington, Rosemount). If you're outside this list but in the area, call anyway. We make exceptions for the right job.
